Abandoned Houses
Lens: DA 18-135 DC Camera: K20D Photo Location: South Algonquin, Ontario

I finally got Norman to stop the car so I could get a shot of this abandoned house. We live 45 km. to the nearest town with a grocery, pharmacy, etc. and this house in about 20 km. on route.

There are actually quite a few places like this around here, makes me wonder about the people and the history of the area.

I'll post this one now, but think I will make it a project to document some of the others. I would love to see anyone else's pics of abandoned houses. Post in this thread if you want.

cheers!

Hi Tess- The isolation image and thought of it just got to me.I live in a wooded area only 1/2 mile(US RTE 1) from all the conveniences that one could possibly thinks of. A 2 minute drive and I'm in a diffferent reality face to face with the real fast paced crazy world.--but I do love the excitement.--charliezap

SpecialK that is an amazing photo. Seriously exceptionally good! Composition, colours, subject... what a story and just a great art shot.

Charlie, that is how it makes me feel when I pass these isolated and abandoned homes. Even the town we go to has only 3000 people in its township! We travel the opposite direction for just over an hour and we get to Huntsville (19,000) and everything a consumer might want can be found there, including the big box stores. There are quite a few abandoned houses in that direction too.

Thanks Scot... it is on a great piece of property backing into forests and river. Maybe someone has bought the land and plans to build there one day?

SMC, really interesting, and sad too as I have heard about the hardships suffered by the Lobster fishermen. I've seen roofs like that buried where the forest has grown up thru them... good catch!
