Orchard Swallowtail Butterfly
Lens: Pentax DA 55-300 Camera: K7 Photo Location: Canberra, Australia ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F5.8

A female Orchard Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio aegeus) sipping nectar from flowers in our backyard. I know it was a female because there was a male hovering anxiously behind her.

Here's the pair of them. The male is sadly out of focus, being significantly closer to the camera.

I like the second shot moreso than the first, good colour and light give great interest in this shot.

Thanks! I disliked it because the male butterfly was out of focus, but in a way it adds to the depth. I particularly like the first one for the sharpness of the proboscis and the motion blur of the wings.

If you look at the Bee shot of mine titled "Heavy Traffic" you will see how sharpness and motion blur work well together.
