HDR Sunset
Posted By: jshurak, 10-14-2007, 04:49 PM

I've been eyeing up this tree for a while now. Finally decided to just stop and take the pictures! What do you think?

Kim - The only dumb question is the one never asked! It is indeed a sunset. Its a series of 5 exposures merged into 1. Each exposure is 2 stops apart, ranging from drastically overexposed to drastically underexposed, then merged together using software. The idea behind is to get properly exposed shadows, mids and highlights.

I like it! Normally I'm not a huge fan of the surreal look of an HDR but this subject works for me. It's got an unusual moody look that works.

mtnbearhug. Here's a few threads I did earlier that might answer some questions as well as a few others:

and:

there are other threads on the forum from more experienced users than I but hope this helps

oddly, I like the way the greens in the field came out better than I do the sky. Not that the sky is bad, just my eye is attracted to the dark inky greens and blacks in the foreground.

egordon - this was taken pretty much smack dab in between Media, Newtown, West Chester and Malvern, off of Providence Rd. The link below should bring it up on google maps. This side of Providence Rd is laden with wonderful landscapes and theres also an equestrian club a little further down the road. Always horses running around!
