A collection from this weekend. Combination of beautiful weather and the monthly amateur astronomer gathering...

8. Today was very clear (for Los Angeles). The first hill in the background is the Palos Verdes peninsula. On both sides behind it is Santa Catalina island, 26 miles offshore.

9. Waiting for the planetarium show.

12. I don't know why people think this sundial is a chair.

13. Kids always run around the astronomers monument.

A lot of good shots here......looks like a fun time. I'm not sure just why, but the 2nd shot draws my attention most of all? The shot of the three girls...priceless!

What a super series! Love number three --- you were caught!

Oh ... each photo says so much to me... the little guy with the scraped arm is another favourite... the perspective from above and the people sitting, that is a really great photo too. Love the joyous expression on the girls faces (4th from last).

I always enjoy your work. It resonates with what I like to shoot at times, only much smaller scale and different environment. One of my favourite shots is a hoard of people standing on the side of the highways taking pictures of a moose. In the same vein, faces and bodies telling stories about their location.

Thank you all for the nice comments. The observatory is one of my favorite spots - you can hike up the hill behind it for a 360 degree view, shoot architecture, people, landscape, flowers etc.
Here's one more. I'm just goofing with the flash (the bluish light), but I like the technique. 30 secs @ f8 gives me time to move around and my $40-dollar flash to recharge...That photog is shooting almost straight up for the moon.

#15 is a movie in a picture - the peopel are not frozen as in most other pictures - they move! i like that illusion..... very powerful techinqiue.

I think that was 3 flashes - but they did not even notice as it was behind them and did not light up anything in their view.
