Anyone want to take a shot at PP this one? Or give me some ideas?
Posted By: lapeen, 10-15-2007, 08:05 AM

I'm sure you can see what I was HOPING for and failed miserably for multiple reasons Couldn't try it again because of lack of cooperation I really do like the shot and don't want to chuck it... just wish it was better. Any ideas.... or anyone want to take a crack at it? Maybe it's a futile effort, but thought I'd give it a shot.

This is what I tried... not exactly thrilled with the result, but like it better than the original

You can download the larger version at my picasa, if you would like to

Pallet brush in PSE seems to give it a more artistic flair, possibly not what you had in mind though. Anyway...

I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but I played with it a bit in Photoshop. I increased the contrast and shadows, and changed the hue a bit to the greener side.

m8o I think your did a GREAT job.. The color you got out of the pic is just beautiful.. and JamesD I love the painting Idea !! how unique..

Well I don't have any fancy PP software but there wasn't a B & W listed yet.. so here is my try at it with just a hint of color......

Hope you like it!!

I'm no pp expert, but I thought I'd "play" anyway. Here's my attempt.

Well, I confess that I can't see what you were going for, but thought I'd play with it anyway. Working with the small version you posted...

Here's a plain photo result. Mostly just tone and color corrected. The biggest issue I saw was all the stray grass getting in the way. A little cloning & healing took care of that...

Last is an artified version of the above. Just messing around...

I'm too much of a GIMP monkey to pass this up. Here's my entry:

Here's what I did:

1. Duplicate image
2. Threshold to create layer mask for treeline
3. Gaussian blur the mask, select all and copy
4. Back to original image, duplicate layer
5. Add layer mask (paste)
6. Blend mode "Multiply" at 100% to maximize sky
7. Merge down
8. Duplicate
9. Desaturate
10. Invert
11. Blend mode "Overlay" at 58%
12. Merge down
13. Duplicate layer
14. Layer mask treeline again
15. Invert layer mask (want to leave sky alone this time)
16. Blend in "Screen" mode at 40% (brighten foreground)
17. Duplicate base layer, move to top
18. Blend mode "Grain merge" at 40%
19. Merge all visible layers
20. Crop
21. Minor cloning on left arm and weed in the sky
22. Unsharp mask

thnx. I was getting either overly saturated background trees, or shirt. The key was to use Lightroom's individual tone adjustment to cut orange down the most, then red less then organge, then yellow less then red, and then boost overal saturation, and vividness (color-domain edge sharpness I believe that is) to create more saturation but better balanced with nice smooth life-like skin-tone. Still not perfect, but I got more green and blue out which was what I was going for. Before Adobe Lightroom I never could have imagined achieving that.
