Exuberant Plunge
Lens: DA L 55-300 Camera: K-x Photo Location: Mentone, AL ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F5.6

I work with a local Boy Scout troop and last summer I spent a week with them at their summer camp. I have to say other that it being a typical, hot, muggy summer week in Alabama, it was a lot of fun. One of the things that the boys who were taking the swimming merit badge had to do was jump feet first in the water with long pants and a button up shirt on. They then had to remove the shirt and long pants and use them as a flotation device. It was pretty funny to watch actually. Here's a photo I took of one of our scouts jumping in to start his test. He looks like he can't wait to get started.

I know I've got some blown highlights in the water, the sun was really bright and it was the middle of the afternoon, but I really liked his expression. Shot @ 120mm, but pretty heavily cropped.

Barry, talk about the look of anticipation on his face, he knew what is was going to feel like. BS are a wonderful group, glad you can dedicate part of your life to our youth. Bob

Thank you Bob. I've been working with the BS for a few years now. It is a good program and it's fun working with the youth.

The look on his face says it all, I can just about feel the coldness of the water.

Terrific shot, Barry - sure brings back memories of my youth (of course dinosaurs were a danger in camp then ).

Thank you! The water actually felt pretty nice, but the first jump in could be a little bit of a shock.

Everything in picture works from the expression, to the motion (or stopping ) of the water, to the great contrast of colors between the red dock and blue shirt. The cropping you did makes the image flow smoothly. Well done.
