the bloom on this type of yucca only lasts for about a week and blooms in late winter. I felt fortunate to get it in prime time. The 2nd photo shows the plant one week after full bloom

So this is a yucca plant; I don't think I've ever seen one, since I haven't been in Arizona at just the right time. Thanks for posting; I'm sure enjoying the photographic chronicles of your many adventures!

Jer, there are about 50 different species of yucca and each has a sub species, so they are very common the in the southwest. They are common in many areas of Texas and used often as ornamental or general plant box fillers. Even the Joshua trees in the Mohave desert are part of the group.

really nice photo... i would love to see a few more of the Yucca plant if you have them... its leaves remind me of the aloe vera plant and its flower of the amazing pitcher plant from around here.... something I will happily post in about 6 weeks.

Tess, you are exactly right, same family. We will be going further south in a week down to Yuma AZ and then later into Tombstone AZ and there will be more in bloom there, I will keep an eye out and post or send them to you. thanks for taking a look Bob

Tess, we have moved down the road towards Yuma and I came upon this species of Yucca, this one blooms in a greenish color and appears more hardy than the other.
