Black Hills Central Railroad Line
Camera: K-x Photo Location: Hill City, SD
Posted By: Bob Harris, 03-02-2011, 10:58 PM

This railroad line was originally built by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad as a mining railroad for gold in the Black Hills. It reached Keystone on January 20, 1900 and was later used to haul equipment for carving nearby Mount Rushmore. I was waiting to ride the old 1880 train to Keystone and wandered through the old train yard and took some photos of the forgotten.

Very nice images Bob, did the second one happen by accident or did you do it on purpose? If you don't know what mean take your mouse wheel and move the image up and down. The horizontal lines on the rail car actually change.

Nice trains Bob. That second one is really lovely. There is just something so romantic about old trains, even those not used to carry passengers. Thanks for sharing them.

Another interesting story . I like trains and can imagine in days gone by how the hustle and bustle must of filled those cars. Time has not been kind to them for sure. Thanks for the ongoing trip

Dave, they do have just about everything on board. An icebox, wood stove, observation deck, toilet and beds and they get great mileage since they are towed. Who needs anything more?
