Just thought I'd share a quick photo of a praying mantis I came across in my backyard yesterday:

Love it. I actually love these creatures. I had one of them on my doorstep on one day and that guy was so cooperative. He would pose for me and would not look away from the lens for a moment.

What was the photo doing in your back yard? .
For some reason the faces of the mantis are the most interesting in bugdom to me a least. You can almost hear this guy saying "What the heck is that man up to." Nice and sharp. I love it.

Nice facial expression. When I was in Jamaica a couple months ago I found a mini Praying mantis, first time I ever saw one so small, it was less than an inch long, but otherwise was a normal praying mantis. Not sure if it was a baby or a small variant

I like it - we have them here but I have not seen one for quite a while - don't think I saw one at all last summer.

Yeah, looking through all the shots I took, his eyes were following me EVERYWHERE, regardless of where I was. But hey, if there was something strange that's a hundred times bigger than me moving around, and making clicking sounds, I'd be sure to keep my eyes on it too...

First time I've ever seen one in my backyard, and I've been living here for close to twenty years...
