Space Shuttle Discovery Launch 02-24-11
Lens: 50-135 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Tituville FL ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/750s Aperture: F4.7

So last wee the family was in Florida visiting Mickey and the gang when we realized that the Space Shuttle Discovery was going to launch. I have ALWAYS wanted to see this in person so my son and I took trip to Titusville (about 54 Miles from Disney) to watch.

I was bummed photography wise because biggest zoom I had was the DA 50-135 2.8 that I had rented. Had I realized we would see this I would have rented a BIGMA

Oh well, so we found a spot on the water and here are some shots I got. All handheld with K5 & DA 50-135 (unless noted)

This was shot with the K5 - DA 50-135 - Shot at 135 the launch pad we found out is to the left of the screen below the bird, this again at 135.

We had plenty of time to hang out

Oh I had lens envy and tripod envy LOL I had left the tripod at home as was vacation and really didn't think I would need it.

So the launch started this is from full zoom 135

I was very happy with results when cropping in with LR3

Another original 135

Cropped with LR3

Another one cropped

Again I was very happy with the DA 50-135 and K5 combo and being able to digitally zoom and still have shots I could share.

Here is one with K10 and 16-50

I had someone get a shot of me and my son ones in a lifetime day for us :-)

I had my Flip and with some iMovie magic created this and thought would share as well.

comments appreciated.

I really enjoyed your series of photos, great shots. That looks like it was a fun outing, one that your son will always remember and speak about. Wondering if you could hear the shuttle power up from your distance. thanks Bob

Really enjoyed the shots and the video magic. Thanks for sharing your "boys day out". I didn't have those so much growing up. Your both blessed.

Very cool photos! Pretty darn good for 135mm!

My parents watched the launch on the beach from their condo in the the Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach area... I was so jealous! I wish I could have been there.
