For Sailor and other yachties

A few photos from the start of Coastal Classic, a 120 mile yacht race from Auckland to Bay of Islands. The multihulls where very hard to shoot as they are coming towards you with a speed of over 20 knots. You can see the full gallery here.

Nice series - love the color of the waters and the sails - thanks for sharing. I like 'em all.

Thank you Dave. I am quite happy with the photos this time. The only long lens I have is the FA70-210 bit I think it did a good job. All the other guys taking photos had very big white lenses. As usual I was the only one with Pentax.

Cheers

Great shots Eddie especially that last one! That's a wall hanger for sure. And the one of the multihulls too, they obviously were "movin' "

NaCl(haven't been on a sail all summer :cries: )H2O

Great series. All are very good and you did a nice job controlling the highligts that bright sun and water create. 3,4 are my favourites of the lot.

Thank you Salty and Peter. I was surprised that the camera handled the highlights so well. Next year I will try to take the photos from a boat.

I like those colors! (The sea as I know it, is mostly grey colored)
What lens did you use, and did you do any cropping/pp?

Thanks Syb

These are terrific, Eddie. I'd love to have print of the last one in my office.

Thanks for sharing these great shots, my friend.

Love the last 2!

Hi Eddie!

These are all exceptional, with the last 2 being my favorites of the group. I'm looking through your gallery now, too. Hope you can get down on boat-level for the next one!

Thank you for all your kind replies. Sometimes you have a day when everything comes together and you feel happy being out there with your camera.

Syb I used the FA70-210 lens, with only a little levels and sharpening in PS. A few of the photos in the gallery have been cropped a bit when single boats have been a bit to far away.

Cheers

Eddie
