Obligatory Bigma Moon shots
Posted By: daacon, 10-19-2007, 07:20 PM

Well when you have a Bigma of course you have to take some moon shots - I was going to try the 1.7 tc but it got cloudy maybe another night. I think they turned out pretty good (not as good as Marc's but I am working on that haha) Whatcha think ?

Details 500mm - ISO 800 - 1/125s - f6.7

a crop of the same pic

100% crop

Not bad at all! These turned out very well in fact!

Personally I would do a slight bit of post processing... a little sharpening, and a slight shift in color for a bit more of a grayscale look. Here is an example of what I did on a photo that started out looking pretty identical to yours, with very minor adjustments. Almost Full on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

My bigma produces unusable images that I did not even bother to try moon shots anymore

I love moon photos and these are good. The more I see of what that lens can do the more I want it.
Cheers

Dave, these are good and oddly enough when you add the 1.7 Tc you don't loose much speed because the moon fills more of the frame. I've tried the combo and it does a decent job. I'd agree with Gary (great shot as well) with the adjustments. I think it's better in winter for some reason, clearer air from the cold?? One thing I'd suggest though is pull the lens back 20-30mm. If the subject is 50 -100feet away the lens is fine at 500mm but as the subject gets farther away I always have to remember to not shoot at full 500mm. Like almost any zoom it's a little softer at full extension.
