Hummingbirds? (and a few others...)
Lens: FA 100-300 F4.7-5.8 Camera: Kx Photo Location: Wilsonville, OR

Picked up this lens on Craigslist yesterday, so I poked around a little just to play with it. I found a very very tiny little... hummingbird, I think. If anyone knows what he is, I'd love to hear it.

I also shot some larger birds.

Looks like a Black Chinned Hummingbird.
Black-chinned Hummingbird
The middle one looks like a Varied Tit, but it may be different in North America (I've seen the Varied Tit in Japan).
The last looks a bit like a Thrush or a Bulbul, but I've really no idea. Unfortunately I don't have any reference books for North America.

The third is a chickadee and the last two are robins.

Yep.
The Chickadees make a great noise. Really loud for such little fuzz-balls. Been swamped by robins too, even though last week we had snow on the ground. Been an odd spring.

Lens is definitely staying in the bag. Wish it were faster, but that would cost me thousands...
I think I'll use this for spring baseball too.

Certainly looks right, and we do have them here. Thanks!

Apparently Chickadees are called Tits everywhere except in the USA.

Tit (bird) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was surprised about the North American Robin, because it's quite a different bird to the European Robin or the Australian Robin - and the US one is indeed related to the Thrush, so I was close.

The name Chickadee is onomatopoetic - they really do make that sound.
As to the tits... that just wouldn't fly here in the states. We have enough trouble with the concept of blue-footed boobies.

I had no idea the European robin was any different. Learn something new every day!

Yep, I read that on the Wikipedia entry. It's interesting though that the name ended up different from the European name.

Shame. I had great fun telling friends that I went to Japan and saw Great Tits!

And the Ozzie ones are different as well!
