EM, I have seen this type of bark before, but didn't know it was a gum tree, never too old to learn, thanks Bob

There is also another type of tree which is not a gum tree and has paper bark but I can recall it's name. Thanks for the comment.

Nice shot. Now is that a damaged spot on the tree or is it naturally peeling away?

The bark just naturally peels away like that and there's new bark under it. Kind of like what happens to women when they have those skin peel facials and it doesn't make the tree look younger either!
