Lava flow Hawaii
Posted By: Dma110, 03-13-2011, 01:42 PM

Here are a few shots of the lava flow in Hawaii. A womam net to me on the boat wa shooting Canon, and kept telling me how much better her Canon was to my Pentax. As night fell, she ran out of light, and asked why I kept shooting as her camera could not shoot in that much darkness. I showed her my shots. She did not say a word to the rest of the night.

Thanks for sharing both the story and the amazing photos. I find it difficult to select a favorite, both the first and the last are very dramatic, but I also like the image depth in number two. Must have been exciting to be there, and maybe hot too?
You could definitely feel the heat. But it was not bad. Funny thing
I just remembered. On the way back, we had a flying fish jump
into the boat with us. Captian of the boat took it home for supper

Really cool pictures you don't get to see every day. There's something about #3 I really like. The water has a nice painting-like look and the atmosphere is really mystical and eerie. It looks like a place where you might find a gate to Hell.

#4 is nice as well, but the skewed waterline gives a bit uneasy feeling to me.

Is this a commercial charter boat you took? Going to be there in a couple of months.

Yes. We went with captian Brownie on 2 trips. A sunset, and
a after dark. We also took a daylight trip. I don't have Captian
Browines # any more, but there is another guy that runs a
Zodiac boat. He also runs a after dark as well as sunset trip.
Stay away from Lava Ocean tours. A good company, but the
boat is too big, and too many passengers for good shoots.
Plus they don't do an after dark trip. The trips leave from Hilo
on the big island. The people at your hotel can make
arraignments for you. Remember Captian Brownie or the guy
with the zodaic boat. It's an amazing trip
