Stavros Flately - St Patrick's Ball - Shanghai
Lens: 43 Ltd & Tamron 17-50 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Shanghai ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F2
Posted By: Frogfish, 03-18-2011, 03:28 PM

As some of you may remember I took part in my first Pro Shoot as backup shooter for the St Patrick's Day Ball for 800 people at the 5 Star Shangri La Hotel in Pudong, Shanghai a few days ago.

Although a large part of the shoot was party-goers portraits and corporate logo and 'street' shots we also got to shoot some of the acts. One of those acts was Stavros Flately - who I know many Brits will know of - he did very well in a talent show a couple of years ago and is a very popular performer / comedian ! He put on a great show that had everyone laughing, singing and dancing. Later I had the personal pleasure of finding out he's a really good bloke too !

These are my first attempt at shooting stage so I hope you like them ! Please forgive the prominent positioning of the copyright - I'm sure you understand why it's necessary. Thank you for any C&C !

These were shot with the 43 Ltd and Tamron 17-50/2.8 and mostly wide open / 1/125 and ISO varying from 1,600 to 3,200. No NR has been applied in PP.

The last one is yours truly with Stavros at the formal shoot after his performance !

Great shots, but I think you should shoot him through 6 or 7 layers of cheesecloth or with the lens cap on! Seriously, well done!

These look very well done to me. I'm guessing the lighting was challenging. Great job.

Thank you Jer - comments appreciated !

Thanks Dave - I'd never heard of him before (don't follow TV shows back home) but he was fun and the audience loved him.

Thank you Chex. The 43 Ltd was superb in these low, constantly changing, light testing conditions. As stated most were shot at 2.0.

Stunning shots! Very clear, and great colour - I'm curious about the white balance - did you use manual WB or auto?

Well done Kevin. I can't believe how you managed to capture such sharp crisp images in those conditions. Thanks so much for sharing them with us.

Thank you Susan ! I think it was the K5 with the 43 Ltd that deserves the plaudits.

Ha ha - just for one night, thanks Dadi !
