Ocotillo in Bloom
Lens: 50mm f/2.8 macro Camera: Kx Photo Location: Sonora Desert ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F8

We are currently camped in the Sonora Desert on the Mexico/US border. Shown are photos of the bloom of the ocotillo cacti which somehow survives in this arid desert with less than 3 inches of rain per year.

I had some friends just come back and they said I would have loved the area for shooting. Really like the first one. JIM

I like how the red blooms really stand out in your photos. I have a hard time believing anything can grow with only 3 inches of rain a year. Pretty amazing.

Here is a photo of the ocotillo, they can grow to about 25 foot and in extreme drought loose all of its green leaves leaving only large spiny sticks.
