Coyote Creek

"Creek" is a generous term for this little ditch which happens to sometimes have a trickle of water running through it.

This spot is about a half mile from my house and I had my eye on it for a long time as a potential location for an interesting photograph. I love the red rocks against the green grass with the dark water in the foreground. On a hot, muggy Saturday afternoon in August, just after a thunder storm had rolled through, I looked out the window and saw the clouds breaking up with shafts of light piercing the gray. Grabbing my camera bag I bolted out the door and headed to this location, and made it in time before the clouds had completely dissipated.

This is an HDR image that is a compilation of five images exposed at different apertures.

Beautiful scene. You pulled off that HDR rather well, I'd say.

Thanks civiletti and Tamia!

Tamia... The overly dramatic, cartoonish HDR that is so prevalent doesn't do much for me. I like to use it only to restore what your eye could see but the camera couldn't capture. Glad you like it.

We're of a mind about HDR, and you did a great job bringing out reality.

Thanks everyone :-) Coyote Creek is a cool name... even though I've never seen any coyote's around, and like I say, it's really more of a drainage ditch than a creek.

Drainage ditch or not, you've sure managed a great photo from it. Nicely done!

None-the-less, it's a great looking shot. I like it very much.

I like this, although I'm generally ambivalent about HDR. This shot, however, looks terrific to me.

Jer - I hear you on being ambivalent about HDR. Too many people over do it. I think it should only be used to compensate for the limitations of digital photography.
