State of the Arch - Color
Camera: Panasonic LX5 Photo Location: St. Louis, MO
Posted By: Sailor, 03-28-2011, 08:02 AM

Last week we spent a few days back in our home town (Mt. Vernon, IL) after picking up our daughter, who happened to be in St. Louis to present a paper at a neurochemistry conference. I almost didn't take a camera, but decided at the last minute to grab my little LX5, which I used during a pleasant and warm afternoon at the Arch (wishing I'd have brought my K20D). Here are some snapshots I grabbed as we roamed the area.

And a sunny day:

A bit of skyline:

Reflected arch:

Spring flowers:

Wow! Great shooting! The first one is fantastic, the people in the scene give it great perspective. Fine colors too! I hope to get to St Louis soon......I have a Pentax friend there I want to visit, and Mrs Rupert's brother lives just down the road. I won't get any shots like these, I can assure you!

Thanks for posting these!
Best Regards!

Jer, really enjoyed the up close shots of the arch, great perspectives. We have crossed the Mississippi many times and of course see the arch, but have never gone into town to visit the area, so this saves me a future stop. I like the reflection on the glass building, looks really abstract. Thanks for the view. Bob

Very, very nice Jer. I am glad that you did take the camera along after all. Someone said that there is a tram going up the arch?

Hey, Bob - thanks alot. You'd have fun here - you can take a ride to the top and look out over the city, although we didn't do that this trip.

Thanks Heinrich. There is indeed a tram that takes you up the arch - I rode it the first year the thing was built.

Well Jer - let me chime in and state how inspiring your shots are. I rode to the top of the Arch the day it opened, lo those many years ago, and pass by it witout looking nearly daily. In all these years it has never occured to me to actually plan a trip to phoptograph the Arch - maybe that will change now!!

Tri-X and a KX?

Obviously, I'm a St. Louisan.

Tri-x and a KX would be perfect (a few decades ago I shot it with an MX and Tri-x). While we didn't ride up the first day the Arch opened, my wife (then bride-to-be) and I took the trip up during the first summer of the Arch's operation. Quite a lot of fun.

Thanks much for the nice words.

Jer
