Huntington Beach has only three or four of these minks in the park and, since they aren't indigenous they will most likely get rid of them.
This little fellow was caught fishing at low tide among the oyster shells.

1. His portrait

2. Off with his prize

3. He dragged it forever and it was still alive

The first photo is really great, shows what the little guys look like. I had to investigate the mink, didn't know they were in that area. Not only did I enjoy your photography, I learned something today, thanks Bob
Species Information: common mink (Mustela vison mink)

Very nice series Susan. Look at the size of the fish he/she caught !

Minks breed fast and are powerful and voracious hunters. Often they escape form Mink Breeding farms and quickly populate the surrounding countryside.

Cool shots, Susan - it's interesting that they're willing to hunt in a salt water environment, something that wouldn't have occured to me.

Actually Jer, the area is a combination of salt and fresh water. Makes for an interesting habitat and the salinity is carefully controlled through the use of gates. It is the gates that attract the birds because the area surrounding them are full of little fish and some big ones to as you can see above and in the thread with the egret.
