K10D + Bigma + Drift...+ RAIN!
Posted By: blwnhr, 10-28-2007, 02:40 PM

Got out to the track to shoot a drift practice day on Saturday. Was a good day, plenty of action! Weather was all over the place, drizzle when I got there, then sun, then clouds, then pouring rain, then sun... Thankfully I had my Pentax Rain Cover to protect my gear.

During the day I really experimented with slow shutter speeds, long focal lengths and serious panning. Even got a couple of shots sharp at 500mm with 1/60 shutter .

The K10D kicked over 10,000 shots and is already 1500 into the next 10,000. I bought it in the first week of June this year, so it gets a workout!

Anyhow, on with the pictures! The first couple will give an idea of how wet it was at times. EXIF at the top of each image. All shots in-camera JPEG, SR off, Tv mode.

1/250, f6.7, ISO-280, +1.0 EV, 500mm.

1/125, f6.7, ISO-100, +1.0 EV, 310mm.

1/90, f11, ISO-100, +0.5 EV, 270mm.

1/60, f13, ISO-100, +0.5 EV, 270mm.

1/90, f16, ISO-100, 160mm.

1/350, f6.7, ISO-100, +0.5 EV, 360mm.

1/125, f8, ISO-100, 230mm.

1/125, f13, ISO-100, 360mm.

1/125, f6.7, ISO-100, +1.0 EV, 310mm.

1/125, f9.5, ISO-100, +0.5 EV, 310mm.

1/250, f6.7, ISO-200, +1.0 EV, 500mm.

C & C welcome, as always. Thanks for looking.

I think your enthusiasm shows. I can imagine how difficult it must have been to shoot them shots - Well done, nice work.

Shouldn't the guy in the red corolla be watching where he's going? Lots of corolllas in fact. Nice work.

And what is the "Pentax Rain Cover" and where can I get one?

Not normally an interest of mine but I must say that you have done a good job of mastering this lens and the shots are really well done. I'm impressed with the sharpness of the slow shutter speed shots.

Yeah, everyone has gone mad on KE70's down here of late.

The rain cover is essentially a rectangle of plastic with a hole for the eye-cup in it and covers the whole camera and lens. Oh, has 2 great big Pentax logos on it.

I picked it up from the C.R. Kennedy stand at a photography show in Melbourne in May. They gave it to me, but the retail for $75 apparently. I've searched on all the Pentax sites, accessorie stores and the like and can't find them for sale anywhere else. I will take some photos of it tonight.

Perhaps i should just go for a bigma instead of a 300 f4 IS for the motor sport stuff

Thankyou very much. All my stuff is hand held, I find monopods too restrictive and tripods don't suit this type of work.

Nice series as always.

Love the shots off the looses ... good to see they are never perfect.

Love the shot of the old-skool Supra (MA70 isn't it???)

Forgot last night, sorry. Tomorrow night I'll take some shots of it. I always carried 3 plastic bags and a roll of electrical tape. Worked just as well in all honesty.

Thanks. Yeah, I have more of the loses, will post them in my gallery.

Yeah, pretty sure it is an MA70. Runs a 7MGTE. Goes well, around 200rwkW. The guy is a good friend of mine.

I had a rethink on the way I take photos toward the end of the day too. Will only make my shots better. More stuff with heaps of blur and nice sharp cars filing the frame.
