Mission San Xavier, Arizona

Exterior photos of this mission founded in 1692, this church was built in 1797 and is still in use. If you are interested in the history, click on link. Interior photos coming. Thanks for viewing, try and ignore sensor dust. thanks Bob

Nice series again Bob. I envy the amount of time you spend west of the Mississippi.

For those who don't know, or if this little tidbit isn't in the history of the mission, if you look very closely at the first shot, in the upper part of the dark, carved facade, there are two curls that curve inward. Atop the left curl you can just see the figure of an animal. It's a cat. On the right curl there's an image of a mouse. The legend is: when that cat catches the mouse, eternity will begin.

Thanks for adding that piece of history to this thread, I looked through the different photos and I did take one closeup and I wanted to share it. It is exactly as you stated, how cool is that. I am sure there must be more to interpret, but I did not see any literature what the symbols mean. You must of lived or studied this mission at one time I would assume. Here is the photo that I have:

OOPS! I think I got predator and prey reversed. I suspect that cat is on the RIGHT not the left.
