Cactus in Bloom
Lens: 43 ltd Camera: K-x Photo Location: St. David, Arizona ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/750s Aperture: F8
Posted By: Bob Harris, 04-16-2011, 09:17 PM

The cactus have finally started to bloom, seems a little late in the year, but lack of rain often contributes to a late bloom season. I didn't have the macro with me, so shot it with the 43mm ltd.

Bob, this shot looks outstanding to me - my granddaughter is fascinated with cacti; I have to make special trips to Lowes or Home Depot for her to see them.

Jer, I guess down your way there aren't a lot of cacti on the coast, you would have to go west or into Hill Country. That is a cute date, taking the granddaughter to see the plants, very special. thanks Bob

You probably don't see many cacti in Sweden, the insect in the bloom is a honey bee, thanks Bob

thanks Barry, we are going to stay in Arizona another 2 weeks to see if a lot of the cacti open fully. A lot of the areas where they bloom so beautifully only get about 3 inches of rain or less each year.

Finally the roses started opening at our campground, photo taken with 50mm macro f/2.8 lens. We are still waiting for the rest of the cacti.

No cacti in here that's for sure :-) Spring is in the air though so things are blooming all the same.

Love the cactus shot, as the colors give it a nice 3d effect
