The 7 frames per second really rocks. It is interesting tho' that I need to learn how to photoshop the raw files. The settings are different then my K200D.

Very nice even exposures across every GBH shot that really shows up the feathers and other details. I like 'em all. I like the little fella too, but the 2nd GBH shot is an excellent action scene.
If you were shooting in AF-C mode you are also learning the joy of a Pentax DSLR that can actually track and focus BIFs at a reasonable clip, not superb at 7fps but tracks pretty well if you let off the gas a little.

Lets see how much your "7fps rocks" the first time you unload 500 shots to edit from one outing. Its easy to do. At least with the K20D and your K200D I presume, each shot was a loud enough click to remind us to go easy.

Thanks to all!

It was interesting to note that the 60% jump in pixels from the K200D to the K5, requried backing off on the sharpness setting in Post Processing. Otherwise the images looked to grainy.

As for focus and exposure on these shots. Exposure was pretty easy. That huge rock outcropping was a perfect grey card. However, like simlar heron shoots, the camera seems to want to focus more on the rock background then the heron foreground. I'm certain it has to do with the increased contrast in the rock surface. That is probably why the airborn panning shots look more focused that the still shots against the rock background... Tiem to work on manual focusing...

Finally, it was interesting to note that 1/1600 s is not fast enough to catch a heron striking in the water without blur. Whoa... and thanks again...

These are all terrific. I just can't get bird shots this good ; I just got a K-5 as well, but I don't think the camera is the problem .

Great job.

I love the detail you have captured. The feathers in #6 are so sharp it makes me want to touch them. Love all of them.

Wow! That's some terrific shooting! Suppose they'll increase the discount if we order another one?

Thanks again.

It was neat to see how the Da300mm shines with the K5. While I love my K200D, the camera was clearlly over matched by the glass (who knew?) I'm certain with practice better/sharper images are yet to come.
