Rokinon 8mm FE meets 'The Wave'
Lens: Rokinin 8mm FE Camera: K7 Photo Location: The Wave, Paria Canyon, AZ, USA ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8
Posted By: dhodgeh, 04-20-2011, 03:42 AM

Taken last week. The Wave is one of those places the cries out for wide angle. The Rokinon did not disappoint.

This was our third visit to The Wave, and finally, the weather cooperated an we managed to time our arrival at the desired time to capture this formation.

A few clouds would have been nice, but I'll take what I'm given.

WOW!!
Just bought the same lens and waiting it to arrive today or tomorrow.
This kind of photos makes the waiting a torture!
Can't wait to get it to my hands, go out and try it.
Hopefully the weather doesn't spoil the weekend.

It's a great shot because you can't notice any distortion in the scene.

Definitely not a stroll in the park, but really not that bad of a hike either.

The big problem in getting to The Wave is acquiring a permit from the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

This is a very popular destination, and only 20 people per day are allowed in this area. A lottery system is in place to allocate the permits.

Ten of the daily slots are permitted in an online lottery four months in advance. We applied in December 2010 for the January 1, 2011 lottery and were among 1500+ applications for the month of April 2011. A single application can (and typically does) request more than one permit.

The other ten daily slots are allocated in a daily lottery held in the BLM Paria Contact Station between Page, AZ and Kanab UT for a hike on the following day. We've participated in that lottery with as many as 100 people crammed into that small office vying for a permit.

This is all very interesting. I had no idea that kind of system was in place. Living out west would be a nature photographer's dream.

Looks lens your lens was a good investment :-)

Don, great shot, perfect for the 8mm as you said. We have tried a couple of times to view, but no luck yet. Glad you were able to photograph and give us this perfect view. Bob

Great shot, looks like my planned visit will not come off. I didn't know you had to apply for a permit and standing in a crammed office isn't my cup of tea. I guess I had better start doing a little more thorough research for my visit to Utah's national parks at the 1st of June.

Got it well, good UWA perspective.
It's a good result, and with some PP, the rock details and colours could be enhanced to good effect.
