Lake Shrine
Lens: Various Camera: K20D Photo Location: Santa Monica CA ISO: 100

The Lake Shrine is a series of meditation areas around a small lake in Santa Monica.

It embraces most religions. These are a few in the Court of Religions.

This area is known as the "Gandhi Lawn".

Many benches along the path.

Lots of flowers.

And various statues.

And of course, the Shrine. I think they don't really want to be bugged by visitors, so I did not try going up there.

Even has a replica Dutch windmill. The houseboat arrived around WWII.

Looks like a cool place, SpecialK. Is it a natural lake?

Actually, the lake is a result of uncompleted grading of the area for residential use in 1927, which left this bowl-shape, later filled with water. You can read a pageful of the history here.

I've literally driven past it a dozen times. About a mile or less from the coast, the famous "Sunset Boulevard" makes a big sweeping curve of about 180 degrees around this place - which you can't see from the road thanks to the trees.

It's a fun place to visit, I've not been there in several years now. Thanks for posting these.
