Very cute girl and a nice photo. Did you use flash to light up the face given the strong backlight? I see your shutter speed is 1/500s, so it must have been high speed sync if that's the case? I often use apertures as high as f16 or f22 in situations like this, in order to get the shutter speed down to the sync speed so that I can use fill flash.

No, no flash used. Really just an opportunistic snap using AF & AE. Trialing DxO software for PP used the auto hdr medium for this and their Velvia film repro pushed sats a bit too. PP was all of 30 seconds.

Might try it with flash to see what i get (thanks for the tip EricT).
