Looking for Feedback
Posted By: ombre, 10-31-2007, 05:20 PM

I'm new to the forum and haven't really shared photos with a goal of getting feedback and suggestions. I'm using an array of lenses but seem to prefer primes versus zooms.

Wow, those are some nice shots. They look almost unreal. #4 looks really good.

Ya

Yeah man those pictures are amazing in the first one and most others how did
you get it to look fake, like it's so crisp.

And the first one I like how it looks like it was placed there in middle of Nowhere.

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Photoshop elements helps. Minor saturation, dodging and a very small bit of sharpening does magic. I also tend to shoot at sunrise or sunset with warm light.

I like the look too. With a fast lens (f1.4) shot wide open and moving right in on the subject, the background blurs wonderfully. The old M42 screw lenses give beautiful warmth to these kind of shots.

I agree with the others excellent stuff. The park bench and person walking in the woods are standouts. Great lighting on the bench and how did you get the painting like look to the woods shot? Well done!

Very nice shots except perhaps the first one, where you could have gone much closer.

My favorites are numbers 3 and 4, they are really beautiful.

Ombre, you have some serious skillz there! Kudos. There's a sub-forum to this one named "Photo Critique" where I believe people feel really comfortable letting go and providing insightful opinion and help; at least that's the way it seems as what I've read from there has been very verbose and insightful.

Not having seen your stuff before, when I saw #1 I figured there's more nice stuff to come. When I saw #2 I said what a great execution on a concept... I have one of those benches, wondering if I could do the same? (answer was "no"! ) Then I saw #3 and I was floored! As so with #4, but I will add, as much as I like #4 I also think it's hyper-real and perhaps over-sharpened? While yes, seeing the detail off in the distance is so impressive, something about having the person in the shot with such a 'sharp' edge made the image lose the realism it otherwise would have maintained, or as #3 does.

Great work, and welcome.

This was most helpful and welcome. It's great to have a fresh set of eyes looking at your work. I'm off to the Photo Critique section next!
