the Ocotillo in Bloom
Lens: 50mm macroi Camera: Kx Photo Location: Sonora Desert
Posted By: Bob Harris, 04-30-2011, 10:06 PM

The Ocotillo is common in the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts of southeast California to west Texas and south into Mexico and blooms annually. The beauty of this plant is when it is in full bloom, photo taken south of Casa Grande, Arizona.

You may want to try and reduce the saturation and sharpness a bit.

Here is the Ocotillo tree itself, most of the blooms are gone, but it gives you a good representation of the species in the event you haven't seen one. They can grow upwards of 20 foot and more, lose all of its greenery and look like barren sticks with thorns during droughts

Got this photo of a cactus that appears to be more of a succulent, it has no hard thorns like most have and this yellow bloom of a Beaver Tail cactus.

I really like the greens in that last photo of the cactus, plus the bokeh is very nice! Great shots and thanks for sharing!

Hey Bob - you must be a botanical expert - you're capturing some nice rich colors in the world of the cacti.
