Derelict Shanghai
Lens: Tamron 17-50/2.8 Camera: K5 Photo Location: Shanghai ISO: 100

Much has been made of the amazing rise & rise of Shanghai. e.g Over the last 10 years alone more high rise towers have been built than contained in the whole of Manhattan. However little is shown of the demolition of the old neighbourhoods to make way for these mega constructions.

This area, by the side of the Suzhou Canal will soon be replaced by new residential towers similar to those seen in the background. In the meantime a few old families still eke out a living growing vegetables amongst the rubble and collecting rubbish for recycling.

Cool series, as you say its an interesting look at a side of things that aren't often seen. As a kiwi I can think of little as annoying as being crammed into a highrise for apartment living, but I guess if your city is moving as fast as Shanghai options are limited.

Good stuff

A group of very well done shots. Not the chamber of commerce view, but a an important view nonetheless. Great job.

I sure enjoy traveling with you Kevin, very nice photojournalist series, great photography as always. I have seen many cities in the US that have left in disrepair that should be razed, but are just being ignored. thanks again for the view. Bob

Thanks for your comments Fruitloops ! I think most mega-city dwellers are well adjusted to high rise living, and in fact grew up on it and feel a little 'out of their comfort zone' in wide open spaces with more than 1 m2 personal space !

Thanks for those kind words Jer !

Thanks Manishved.

Cheers David - glad you liked them !

That's very kind of you to say Bob and NbyNW ! I'm very pleased to hear you both enjoy my work, great to know the photos are appreciated.

Thank you Charlie.

Thank you Phil - comments much appreciated.

Nice photos, I like the one with the shoe

Why do the photos look a bit unusual? What post processing do you do?

Thanks !

PP on these : Curves / Vibrancy / Definition / Selective Saturation (subject) / Sharpen.

I think maybe what you are referring to as 'unusual' is the colour 'pop' from the subject saturation to make them stand out from the rest of the environment.
