New Bird Feeder
Lens: Pentax DA-L 55-300mm Camera: Pentax K-x ISO: 400 Aperture: F5.8

Last weekend I had the idea of putting up a bird feeder in the tree outside my window. It's much better than hoping birds would randomly stop by like I was doing before. Here are my favorite shots from the past week.

A pair of Goldfinches.

House Finch with his mouth full.

Grackle

Female Brown Headed Cowbird

Female Red Winged Blackbird

Lately I'm trying to photograph and identify every kind of bird I see around my house. So far I have 20.

Kevin, "Build it and They will Come", you proved that right.
Great results already, I really like the goldfinches. The grackle there, appear much smaller than in the s/w. thanks for sharing. Bob

Thanks Bob. The bad thing is the bird seed is gone too quickly.

If you think the seed is gone quickly from the birds feeding just wait till the tree rats discover it.

Actually I've never seen a squirrel on my street. I think the trees are too small or something.

Here's 2 more:
Scarlet Tanager

Morning Dove.

The bird identified as a female Brown-headed Cowbird is a female House Sparrow.

Yes, the Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula) is substantially smaller than the Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus) of the Southwest.

I like the first photo. The gold finch on the branch looking at the other finch feeding. Good composition and exposure.

Well Kevin you got the Morning Dove correct - I missed that one! Geeze, those Goldfinches are bright! Ours are not nearly as colorful! Must be the feed!

Afraid I'm gonna stick with the "lucky catch" technique. I know I'd get more shots, but it's the challenge!

Nice shots but your "mourning" dove is misspelled.

You're correct! I appreciate the spell check! I knew it was the song not the time of day.....just can't get much right these days.

You will find birdwatching will become addictive as will photographing them. You will also find your wallet getting thinner with each bag of feed. You have a good start with these so keep them coming. If you manage to get the names of the LBJs (little brown jobs) correct you will have my undying appreciation. Those little brown guys look so much alike that I have given up trying to name them.
