31st Anniversary

Just a one on the day of rememberance for the 57 human lives and countless animals lost during the eruption of Mount St. Helens, May 18, 1980. It is just a reminder of how powerful Mother Nature is and how small and insignificant we are to stop her.

I remember that day very well. The dooms day prophets have this Sat. May 21st scheduled for a catastrophic earthquake that signals the end except for the true believers. And I was looking forward to my yearly probing next week at the doctors.--charliezap

My aunt owned some property on that mountain that is now dust in the wind. We used to camp there long ago...

Lovely view of the mountain by the way!

Very nice shot. Amazing the recovery that has taken place in such a short time.

This eruption - and viewing it in class during my junior year in high school - is what set me on the path to becoming a geologist.

Spring (usually mid June) was always the best time to be there and how much more is coming back every year.

I was in my freshman year at the U-Dub when she blew, and it pushed me to go into the geology department as well... Of course, I never *used* that degree (went into the Air Force for 13 yrs, now I'm doing database programming - after getting my Masters in hydrogeology...) Oh well, they keep giving me a paycheck for it, so I'm happy!
