First shots with new K100.
Posted By: Sean K, 12-14-2006, 02:19 AM

Just some shots with of my favourite subject. I'm very very glad that I returned my Canon S3 IS back to Wal-Mart (on the 29th day out of an eligible 30) and picked up this thing. All shots are done in RAW and and a few are cropped much more so than what I could of gotten away with on the canon that has the same number of mega pixels. I'm a complete beginner so any advice, idead, or thoughts are welcomed.

Nothing special here except that this was taken at night with only one dim lamp in the vicinity. The flash was an old sun-pak stolen off my dad's old film pentax.

I quite like black and white.

His name is Gunnar by the way.

First try using the channel mixer. The shadow on the leg is completely blackened, but it was barely brighter in the original. Is it too noticeable?

Thanks for looking.

Nice doggy
The first pic is giving me a feel of looking at a kind hearted intelligend friend.
However, the last pic is giving me a feel of a Hound of Tindalos racing at me. Probably it's because of the eyes.

I like the 2nd one better. More impact and serious. Certainly got lots of tension there. Get ready for rabbies vaccination...

That first shot is great. The colors seem perfect. Did you get the dog to match the couch or the couch to match the dog?

Being a really nutty dog-lover it's always hard to get past the subject. I like the first shot best.

#4 does it for me.

Love the dynamics! Were you holding up a pheasant?

#3 Gunnar on the trail of something interesting. Like it. Have yourself ready for the flushed bird.
#1 tells me this is a good friend. I can see you will have lots of opportunity to photo this guy. He is a ham.

Thanks for the comments. The thing about weimaraners is that their coat matches anything grey, light brown or even sometimes blue. The number of fabrics he blends in with is astonishing for such a striking colour. However, with the coach I think he is just blending into his favourite surroundings.

Looks great! Love the colours. Have you checked the trigger voltage on that flash, though? Some older flashes have a higher trigger voltage than the camera is designed for.

I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it - it looks normal to me. Bright sunny day in snow, I'd be surprised if there weren't some dark shadows. Nice conversion, waaaay better than my first tries!

I like the contrast between the first ones and the final one - this nice doggie goes totally demented! Nicely caught at just the right moment. And he's a wonderful subject.

Hi Sean, Sorry that I haven't responded earlier.

And it's always nice to see Gunner

Just so everyone knows, I had the opportunity to meet Sean on a fishing trip this summer and he's a great guy.
We gotta go out again next year when the ice is off Sean

Stu, you're absolutely right... I am a great guy. I think I should be able to make it to a few more fish-ins this coming year. I'm sure we'll catch each other at a couple.
