This the second part of the Cambodian series, carrying on from
Sihanoukville, Cambodia - Part I. The children on the streets make fun whenever they can, and it's great to see.
Laughter
Hair do
Boys playing after a torrential downpour
I did, unfortunately, witness on more than one occasion middle aged ex-pats with crooked smiles on their faces approach groups of children playing innocently, engaging them in something only God knows about. I found it difficult to believe for the best in those situations.
I was moved by how humbly the Cambodian men and women have to live their lives and raise their families.
Social interaction
The destitution is pervasive, yet the spirit for joy and laughter strong. Down a road less travelled by tourists, this older lady was busy on the floor giving it a scrub and clean. I asked her for a photo, which she obliged graciously. She had character even without being able to communicate with her. A small donation was all I could offer her in kind, and yet she was very grateful with a big smile on her face.
Lunchtime
Pyjamas are for going out (well, they are in Cambodia...)
The markets are a hub of activity, day and night. They even have a dedicated section of the market for jewellery makers - made from scratch! Food is relatively cheap, and despite the poverty, generally there is little malnutrition or starvation. The population is educated reasonably well through radio (and for those who have it, TV) using media campaigns for healthy eating and infectious disease prevention.
Fruit seller
Grassroots jewellery
Motorbike trailer (held on only by passenger arms...)
How's the chicken doing back there?
End of a long day
Afternoon siesta
The country has hope, but it has a long way to go as well. I spent 2 days in Sihanoukville and got to see the above scenes in the flesh (More here:
Ash's Album: Sihanoukville, Cambodia - PentaxForums.com) I can only wonder how much more there is to the country over a lifetime...
Finally, chicks dig bikes in Cambodia
I have no idea what this means:
And... hellooo? Any of you forum members in here?
Thanks for viewing the series.
