Annas Hummingbirds
Posted By: SanMat, 05-24-2011, 10:29 AM

Taken over this past weekend. The Annas males have been pretty active lately. All taken with DA* 300mm and K5.

C&Cs welcome.

Pete

Loco,

Thank you - the 300mm length is just about perfect for these type of shots. Monopod helps though I usually shoot handheld. That length is close enough for the detail but far enough away so not to bother them. They are creatures of habit, so the males tend to come back to their favorite spots to perch (and call for females).

Cheers,

Pete

Medesimo,

Grazie, glad you like these. The DA* 300mm is an excellent lens. Very sharp and light enough for taking handheld shots. For image quality you won't be disappointed.

Pete

Frogfish,

Thank you for the kind words. Most of my shots are posted over on the dpreview forum, but I will be posting more here going forward. Should have another post up today.

Cheers,

Pete
About time!

Very nice Pete and I love number 3. If I'm in the area, we'll have to meet up for a hummer festival!

Take care,
Marc

Thanks Marc.

Glad you like that one. That seems to be the favorite for most people.

Are you in the Bay Area from time to time?

Pete

These are the most difficult birds to photograph. Splendid work and I am in a state of awe about the details in the pics.

gut1kor,

Thank you for the kind words. I would say they're difficult to photograph if you try to chase after them, but if you can find their favorite perches (or have a feeder), I've found that they're actually pretty patient.

Cheers,

Pete
