Posted By: SanMat, 05-24-2011, 10:29 AM

C&Cs welcome.

Thanks,

I think that's probably the most complete of the shots. Was fighting some shadows with the others a bit.

Really nice shots Pete. We don't get the Anna's in our area so it is a pleasure to see them. Thanks for sharing. The colors are really beautiful.

Thanks Bob,

There are a couple of spots near my home where the males like to perch and sing for females.

Glad you like these,

Pete

Thank you Susan.

I believe there are one or two other hummingbird species that are in CA but I've only seen the Annas here in the Bay Area. Further south and east there are Costas, which are more purple and I believe a bit larger.

Happy to share,

Pete

Thanks Dave,

Good luck in your area. Hopefully you'll see some soon. They're always fun to watch.

Thanks,

And good luck with that - you won't be disappointed. I had an SDM issue with mine (luckily within warranty) but no trouble since. It's my most used lens.

Frogfish,

Thank you for the kind words. Most of my shots are posted over on the dpreview forum, but I will be posting more here going forward. Should have another post up today.

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks Rob,

Luckily the hummingbirds are a bit unique in that they get comfortable with you pretty quickly. More so with the males than females in my experience. The 300mm length is just about the perfect length for getting in close enough, but not too close to bother them. Also helps that the DA 300mm renders detail the way it does.

Pete
