I have never seen a wild turkey in my neighborhood before so when I saw it wondering threw the neighbors yard I disregarded the choirs I was working on grabbed my camera and ran out the door forgetting my shoes! On the way back from the turkey chase which lasted 30 minutes, their was the blue jay I have been after all season no more then 6 feet away!! So it was a double joy to find the turkey and then the blue jay I have been chasing after all year finally be near my feeder. Not only was it near my feeder it seemed to have no fear of me what so ever it just continued eating. It was a very lucky day!

Nice catch and photos, but....

Unless there is a different variety of wild turkey in Virgina compared to Pennsylvania, your photos look more like a guinea hen.

interesting i didnt know the difference thanks for the referance you seem to be right on the guinea hen rather then a turkey but either way it is such a rare site to see in suburbia. I have never seen anything like it before or since, an occasional deer happens and once in a blue moon a black bear will make its presence but a wild bird such as this is a once in a life time for me.

+1 I agree on the guinea hen. They are domestics and sometimes farmers keep them around as intrusion alarms, because they can get kind of noisy when a stranger approaches.

Yes, they made excellent driveway alarms for sure!

One that is alone like this though will me a nice big dinner for a hawk before the day is out.

pgfilms - I wasn't picking on you photos at all, and I know what you mean when you see something rare in your area. I was merely pointing out the correct species.

I didn't take any offense to the correction I just had no idea what it was and it looked like a turkey to me. Thanks for the correction I had no idea that species was even a species if you know what I mean. I do hope you enjoy the pictures though that is the reason I posted them so other people can see the oddity that I saw one spring day and that I was able to capture it some with great detail the only pp I did was cropping the one of its head other then that they are 100% raw pics.
