Rosellas like apples too!
Lens: Pentax DA 55-300 Camera: Pentax K7 Photo Location: Canberra, Australia ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F5.8

Until today, I didn't know that Rosellas like apples. This Eastern Rosella chased away a Crimson Rosella that was eating this apple on a tree in our back yard - unfortunately the clothes line got in the way of my shot.

Here's the other bird I mentioned - a Crimson Rosella. I went for a short walk this morning to photograph one.

The other ubiquitous parrot in the area is the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.

Thanks for the feedback! It's great to see them in the back yard. I'm still hoping for a really good photo of an Eastern Rosella one day, but they're very shy and therefore hard to get close to.

I don't think Australians appreciate how lucky we are! I wish the neighbours would stop feeding the Cockatoos though - they're too loud!

Would it really be that much better than the 55-300? Actually my next purchase will be a K5 so I can get the same shots without the digital noise.

PS This afternoon there was a Satin Bowerbird trying to feed on the apples, but he was chased off by Red Wattle Birds...

Love the pictures! I've always been jealous of you Aussies - so many beautiful parrots!
Most parrots LOVE fruit, apples and grapes are usually top of the favorites list. Might be useful to know if you want to tempt them into shot?!

Rob. As you can see from my signature I have both the 55-300 and the DA*300 ...... night & day. The DA*300 is just a fabulous lense.

Well, I'll think about it, but the K5 is higher on my priority list. Not much point having a great piece of glass if the image is made disappointing by sensor noise.
