My bet would be an ape. But whatever, it's a real nice image.

Judging from the teeth and the eye sockets I'd say a large chimpanzee rather than a gorilla. Look at the #4 pic on this page. People always think of chimpanzees as being rather small, mainly because in films they always use adolescents as characters and most pet chimps are also, but actually they can get fairly large depending upon age, region, time period, etc. That could be a gorilla too, but the jaw on a gorilla is usually a bit heavier than that.

The pic in no.4 does look very similar so looks like it could be a chimpanzee skull then
