Forest Girl Photoshoot
Posted By: Kemal, 11-11-2007, 05:25 PM

I took these with the 18-55 kit lens and the fa 50 mm with my K10D. Tell me what you think, the rest of the set is here: www.kemal.ca - Forest if you feel like commenting or rating.

Nice shots with a beautiful model. I especially like the b&w treatment. It really really softens the oof area, as that lens isn't really a bokeh king. I like all the shots where the lips in your models's smile is turned up (that's all but #2 for me). Thanx 4 sharing.

Very nice shots of a lovely young girl. I'm not a big fan of black and white but I have to say I like the black and white shot best it really works on this.

Lovely natural light portraits with a soft look. Although I think when shooting a portrait, unless its a group portrait, then it makes sense to use the portrait orientation. doesnt that ring nicely ?

In nr 2 the bokeh is not nice, in the others its fine. I would try to crop it to portrait, and then run a slight gaussian blur on the background, problem solved.

in nr 5 you have gone closer to the model so I can forgive the landscape

Hi,

I think 1,3 and 4 are good portraits. The 1st I would crop down to her face and neck just below the cut of her top and keeping her hair (sorry guys no bosoms!).

The 3rd and 4th I like alot and the last because of the smile!

Just my opinion

Number one all the way. Just a wonderful portrait, proving yet again that even the kit lens can be a great performer provided the person behind the viewfinder knows what he is doing. Well done. And the black and white is a very good choice.

I'd just crop or frame some of these towards the rule of thirds...as others have said, the portrait orientation works well, but landscape would be great too if offset from centre.

Nice model, focus, lighting, and scene...kudos!

Number 1 an 5 strike me as wonderful calssic portraits. They really do a wonderful job on a beautiful woman. Really like the last one, it seems to show her personality.

I like the photos. One way to make them better (especially on the web) is applying unsharp mask. It only needs to be a slight amount, but they appear to be in need of sharpening.

Nice work.

No.1 by far the best to me. Nicest shot and best pose.

I like #1 is certainly the strongest image of the bunch... #2 the weakest (dead center in the horizontal frame, with nothing really interesting framing her)

I'm guessing #2 and #5 were not with the kit lens. They're all very nice, but the ones except #2 and #5 seem a tad bit....washed out....for lack of a better term.

I liked them all, but I wanted to see if a little pp could reduce the washed out look so I took the liberty of trying my hand at #3 and I hope you don't mind.

Sorry Mike, I think these alterations totally missed the mark. A little more contrast would have bee one thing, but the USM and saturation there are making me think less 'vibrant' and more 'burn unit'

Well, I obviously lack the advantage of the distinct pleasure of personal acquaintance with the young lady and had nothing to go on with regards to where to put the brakes on. She just struck me as being somewhere around that degree of sun-kissed.

Here's a more restrained effort at improving the contrast, which was what I was more interested in exploring the pp possibilities of:
