Yesterday's Hummingbird - with Trap Focus
Lens: DA* 300mm Camera: K5

Pete, that is a wonderful photo, looks like 1/1600 is the speed to use, thanks for sharing with us. Bob

Thank you very much. That's the green shade I usually see here - all the hummingbirds I've seen here are Annas Hummingbirds.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the kind words. For these type of shots, I'm usually shooting between 1/1000 sec. and 1/1600 sec. Slower than 1/1000 sec. usually means too much blur. Faster than 1/1600 usually means too much noise. I've seen others get good results down to 1/250 sec. or so, but usually only for hummingbirds that are perched, not ones in flight.

thanks Pete for the added information, I will give it a try next time we notice birds at the feeders as we travel. Bob
