Two portraits from this week-end.
Lens: 18-135 Camera: K-5
Posted By: Camos1313, 06-22-2011, 06:29 PM

Hi,

Still working to learn how to use my new baby, the K-5! Coming from a K20d, I am amazed, but find that I have a lot to get used to...

So here are 2 from this week-end for C&C

Tx a lot!

#1 - lighting is decent, but subject is turned too much away from the camera, and there isn't enough interest on the other side of the frame, just a shrub; composition could be a lot better.

#2 - looks like you snapped the shutter during his blink; moody lighting can work well with a better composition/pose

As above, the rendition is excellent, but the poses have let these portraits down.
#2 may be squinting rather than blinking, but it doesn't work well.

# 2 pix...squinting or blinking aside...I like this picture. The detail, the B+W, the black background...I think it is good.

I think there's potential here...working on this type of photograph. The pose and the composition may need some work as another poster said....but the photograph...the lighting, etc...is not bad at all.

I forgot to say I wanted C&C on the technique and not the pose!!! They were just snap shot to test the technique and not a model shoot. Tough, I do have to work on composition, even when it is a shoot!

Well pose is part of the technique really

The first one needs some fill lighting on the subject. She's too dark. Yo ucan either do this in the feild with reflector or fill in flash, but easily in PP with an adjustment brush or say 1/3 stop lighter.

I don't mind the composition, except the cropped elbow.

I like the second shot, the 'blink' or squint doesn't devalue the pic IMO

The first shot seems to have a pleasant little pop to it. I would have preferred to see the subject's face, but if she is to be looking off it would be nice to have some element or suggestion that would support it.

I really enjoyed the second photo. Nice use of B&W. I do not have a problem with the subjects eyes. The character lines around his eye, the slight smile, as well as the detail throughout offer a story. I would not change a thing on the second shot.
