Wheat to the mountains
Posted By: clarenceclose, 12-15-2006, 06:03 PM

Taken just before harvest time. The swath through the wheat is from the wheel of the mobile sprinkler.
The colors were nice but the sepia tone just seemed to bring out more of the textures.
C&C appreciated.

Very nice, Clarence! I like the sepia - it simplifies the image and emphasises the composition. I like the eye-splitting sharpness too, gives some foreground interest.

As critique - should have shot it medium format

Duncan.

Clarence, I really like this photo. It has a vintage or classic feel to it. I really like the light in the clouds and the texture of the wheat. Very nice.

Thank you all.

Duncan, you crack me up. The sensor on that little camera is about the size of your little fingernail. Ratio that to a medium format and this picture could have been as big as my wall. I was a bit worried in trying to capture this because I wanted the foreground to be sharp. f8 was the best it would do so I focused about 15 feet into the wheat and it worked.

In the color version, the light across the clouds was barely noticeable yet when I went sepia it showed up nicely. A nice additive bonus.

that really rocks, Clarence!
the different hues and tones of the (almost) same color really gives it a good...gee lost for a discriptio word.... maybe a calming feeling?

when was it taking?

Thank you Randy. It was taken the last day of July. Wheat harvest goes on at a frantic pace, day and night to beat the weather pretty much throughout August. This was just before it all got started. The clouds in the background are not the farmer's friend during harvest.

Very good! Perhaps a bit less toning of even pure B&W would work well too.

Clarence, you have been busy! Very nice in deed. Sepia brings back the feeling of nostalgia. The crops and the field with a dramatic sky!

Very nice shot Clarence, and I like the sepia look. Did you try it in B&W?
Was just curious. Well done.

Clarence, I do like your work and the septa tones make this one stand out the sharpness and shadows are an eye catcher.

Good Shooting.
