Art Class
Posted By: Mike Cash, 11-15-2007, 12:28 PM

In the Navy, this is what we called "manning the rails".

While driving in Ageo on the way back from Tokyo I spotted a big group of students lining a pedestrian overpass. The best I can figure is that it is a junior high or high school art class sent out to sketch the road and traffic. Kids being kids, some were waving at motorists passing below.

I find it interesting that the large store sign is in English. Also, why is the traffic light on the opposite side of the traffic flow?

Yes... the English sign also popped out at me as well. I really enjoy looking at your "slice of life" over there.

That sort of traffic is par for the course over here. Now you can see why I manage to get most of my shots while in traffic.

As for why they have the lights like that, tell me and we'll both know. I have always suspected it to be a ruse for connected contractors to sell twice as many lights to the government.

Sometimes when we put a strong element, like a strong line through the middle of a photo, it may work, depending on what is created and what one wants to express. But in this case, I do not think it works because the image is so busy and it appears as if it is made up of two photos, divided by the bridge girder and the viewer's interest becomes divided.

And sometimes when we post photos it is just to share an interesting scene and not with much consideration for the artistic merits of the photo. This is one of those.

My comments were intended in good faith, but I take your point and will show more consideration in the future.

Your comments were valid, accurate, and caused not the slightest bit of offense. I hope you will continue to share them with me in the future.
