Random People 6-30-11
Lens: sigma 85mm 1.4 Camera: k-x Photo Location: Omaha Nebraska ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F1.8

The guy with the dark glasses/swollen eye is UFC professional fighter, Houston Alexander. I ran into him while looking for random people to shoot. It was just 24 hours after a fight in kansas. When he took off his glasses, he said "get a shot of this.". I told him it looked bad and he replied "you should have seen my opponent. they had to take him to the hospital.". I assumed that meant he won. I can only wonder how much longer he could fight, taking that kind of punishement. Despite the fresh injuries, he was one of the nicest guys I met and he even signed a paper with his email and name "Alexander Houston", "The assasin", so I was able to send him the photos.

Nice pics! Houston Alexander was always fun to watch when he was in the UFC. He was cut from the UFC prior to this thread.

Nice series. I am amazed you have "random" people posing multiple shots for you. The monochrome treatment for Houston Alexander is very appropriate. Beauty at Ease is my fav.

Ya, very nice - the "Old Photo Desaturated" ones look great, also really digging the hotty in the 5th photo (6 29 11 18), she really pops out in this photo.

I really really like this one (you didn't post) of her from your flickr roll: (let me know if you want me to remove it from the post)

I always enjoy your 'random' shots. Great shots of the monolithic man here but I really enjoyed the first shot of the three together. Makes a change and they all look happy and healthy. Would love to hear a little about your 'intro' technique.

Thanks guys! It gets much easier the longer I do this series. There's no trick, as I learn to forget my ego and approach each person as if they are an old friend. I think it's all about being down to earth. It's amazing how well people respond when they're treated like they're important. Houston is an amazingly down to earth, nice guy. I ran into him on the streets about a month ago and have a couple more shots of him in one of these posts. @ joe.penn, now worries, thanks for the feedback!

I've been asked about the approach to people. I've been thinking about doing a quick video as it happens to give an idea There's no secret but a pleasant approach and the occasional smile...
