Misty Marina Morning
Posted By: Sailor, 11-18-2007, 08:01 AM

Grabbed some shots at the marina early in the morning a couple of weeks ago. All were taken with K10D and DA 16-45.

Dodger (just installed for winter sailing) covered with dew.

Sailboat bumper (not mine!).

Sea Oat.

I hope everyone's having a pleasant autumn.

Jer

Finally, I couldn't resist posting a picture of my granddaughter (the one in the middle) dancing at this year's Lake Jackson Festival of Lights. I was able to crawl onto a sound platform and shoot above the heads of the crowd - which was considerable and contained a signifcant group of grandmas and grampas. Taken with DA 50-200.

Certainly the first shot is quite pleasing (don't know what I'm looking at) to the eye. On the other hand the second shot is very very chaotic. Too many lines and directions for the eyes to follow - no offence meant.

Yup, your GD shows no fear and no hesitation - just like grandpa climbing a sound platform to get the shot.

Raw or Jpeg?

Did you have to do any post prossesing?

Hey Jer, I like them all. Love the light on the dodger, not many here go for winter sailing, the air is good, but getting ice off the rigging is poop. I'm a bit envious, but then again I don't envy you in July and August. I like the lines and reflections in the second. The sea oats is nice too, didn't know you had them down there, I must have several dozens shots of them in every lighting imaginable, it must mean I like them. The one of your GD and her two friends is just too cute. Did it leave any sugar residue on your monitor?

NaCl(bet all those gp's and gm's were jealous as all heck over your capture)H2O

I like them all Jer but that first shot is magic. Great light. The second is different and I like it but it may be because I am a bit biased towards everything to do with yachts. Beautiful granddaughter and without fear for the audience.

Cheers
Eddie

The dramatic lighting in the first shot is eye-catching. It tells a story and captures one's interest.

Mike, I always shoot RAW and, after making changes (if any) to white balance, exposure, contrast, and noise, convert the files to TIFF for cropping, sharpening and printing; for posting, I resize an unmodified TIFF file, save as JPEG and then sharpen lightly. My "system" works well for printing on my inexpensive 3-in-1 HP printer, but my posting results are - at best - uneven.

I should tell you, that this forum enjoys the membership of some real masters of post processing (I'm not one of them). Most people unselfishly share their techniques; I've learned a great deal from them and so will you.

Jer
