The Skimmers, Rynchopidae, are a small family of tern-like birds in the order Charadriiformes, which also includes the waders, gulls and auks. The family comprises three species found in South Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
This time of the year they are a common sight here in So,Cal.

It was Nikon D700 with AFS300 F4. My K-5 was sent for minor repairs, so.

Thank you .

These photos are truly amazing captures.... they make me love photography even more and inspire me to try harder for bird-in-flight images. Love the clarity and colour. The second shot is too good to be true... there is even a twinkle in her eye. wow.

Depends on the time of the year, Bob.
In summer you will see them fly over the bridge all the time.
I will try and capture some skimming shots with my K-5 since it is back.

Not at all..........
I do have some skimming shots that I took with D3 and I sure would like to try and do the same with my K-5.
Thanks.

Dang, I wish I could shoot BIF like this - beyond my ability, but obviously not beyond yours. Great job.
