Praying Mantis "portrait"
Lens: DA L 55-300mm Camera: Pentax K-r Photo Location: Yard
Posted By: loco, 07-08-2011, 04:15 PM

Got another praying mantis shot for you folks. I call this his "portrait". This is handheld with flash, f14, 1/100s, 107.5mm, ISO 320. Used the Raynox DCR-150 adapter with the DA L 55-300 lens.

Hope you like this one!

A very nice shot showing plenty of detail of a face that only a mother could love!

Thank you so much, Bob! They are weird creatures, huh?

Thanks, eaglem! Glad you liked it.

They are odd looking, that's for sure, but I've always had an affinity for the things. I just try to keep them away from the hummingbirds! lol

Spectacular. I would never have thought an auxiliary lens would produce such sharp results.

Good result from your Raynox setup. The 55-300 is certainly capable of sharp and colourful renditions.

Thank you, Ash.

I am quite pleased with the Raynox 150/55-300 combination for macro. In a perfect world, I'd certainly love to have a real nice macro like the Tamron 90, but for now, I am happy to keep working with this setup.

Looks like an alien from a movie. I would love to be able to capture such sharp details.
