Sigma 170-500 closeup lens
Lens: Sigma 170-500 Camera: K-5 Photo Location: San Gabriel River ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8

Out one morning looking to get better shots of an Orange Bishop with the 170-500 in the San Gabriel River and instead found many dragonflies about. I was surprised to find it did a decent job from MFD 10 feet away. This is a crop removing approx 25% of the outside border.

BTW, next shot is one of the guys I am trying to get a better pic of, hopefully soon:

Nice job on both photos, the lens/K-5 work well together. Would love to see the Orange Bishop in person, quite beautiful and something I wouldn't think would be in So-Cal. thanks Bob

I read they were introduced to Southern California from Africa in the 80's and seem to be doing well. I haven't seen them anywhere but around the riverbed, however.

Thanks for the comments

Very nice shots with the 170-500!

This helps inspire me as I've been working with the same lens for a couple weeks now with some good results also.

Good luck with the Orange Bishop - I'd love to see some more of him.

Thanks for the comments folks. From what I hear the males only look that way during mating season so my window may be getting small for this year. I may have to play hooky from work this week
