Faces of Watoto (6 images in relply)
Posted By: atupdate, 12-16-2006, 04:51 PM

The Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda, Africa is touring the USA and made a stop in my neck of the woods. These children are orphans that have lost one or both parents to AIDS. My family had the privilege of housing three of the boys and their adult chaperone for an evening. For more information about this choir please visit Watoto - Raising Future Leaders. Images in reply.

All images are ISO 1600 or 3200 with no noise reduction. Post processing involved primarily WB, contrast, curves, and sharpening.

Excellent shots.
The lighting must have been quite high for you to get such clean shots.
I love their expressions and I can almost hear the music.

Thanks all for the kind words.

clarenceclose: Yes, there was some stage lighting available, which I was able to work around. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to use the kit lens and the DA 50-200mm.

jthommo: Sorry, I forgot to mention that these were shot in raw. The stage lights had some red and blue spots included and I needed to be able to fix the white balance easily. I used Raw Shooters Essentials for the conversion to jpeg.

roentarre: These are some of the most polite children you will ever meet. We did get to see them let their hair down a bit when they interacted with my very active son.

Very nice series. Well done technically, and you get a good sense of the spirit of the show.

Excellent series of shots! The expressions you got here are wonderful - especially in the 4th and 5th shots.

Tim, you're right. I see no difference between the kit lens and the DA 50-200 as far as lighting is concerned. If there are differences they would be so minimal that levels can brighten or darken easily with no detriment to the images.
May I add my compliments for such interesting and colorful shots, imbued with spirit, excitement and joy. It was obviously a fun day. Warm regards, and thanks for your input. Freddy
